History of B´nei Akiva

It is impossible to say, exactly how B?nei Akiva was founded. It is, however, a fact that it was in 1929. At the same time (maybe a couple of years earlier) Zionistic Youth movements existed in Poland and in other Easteuropean Countries. These consisted of young Jews who wanted to go to the former Palestine to help establishing a new Jewish state, and the believed that they could be a gain to this project by working.

But there is no doubt that the early B´nei Akiva-ideologist were religious Jews. In 1921 the Zionistic party Hapoel Hamizrachi was established. This party combined the belief in Torah and the Zionistic labour-spirit. When Hapoel Hamizrachi together with another party mergered in 1955, B?nei Akiva became the natural Youth movement of the new party.

Since then B´nei Akiva has grown very big. Today there are B´nei Akiva sniffim ("departments") in North- and Southamerica, Europe, Asa, Africa og Australia).
